Sedimentary Rocks
Formation
Sedimentary rocks usually form from weathering, erosion, deposition, and cementation. They form near the surface of the earth.
Weathering – breaking down rocks
Erosion – movement of sediments
Deposition – placement of sediments
Cementation – binding or sticking together of sediments
Types and Traits
Sedimentary rocks can be Clastic, Chemical, or Biological
Clastic – Formed above ground. Made of many pebbles and rocks stuck together
Chemical – Formed underwater. Very small sand grains stuck together. Can’t even tell it’s made of sand sometimes
Biological – Formed underwater. Has fossils in it.
