The Scientific Method
Ask a Question
Ask yourself a question that can be tested with an experiment
Hypothesis
Make an educated guess that answers the question that was asked
Prediction
To make a suggestion about what will happen in the future. Example: "If I do ____, then ____ will happen"
Experiment
Test your hypothesis with an experiment
Conclusion
Consider your data from your experiment and use it to form a conclusion
Example:
Question: Will my stomach growl to tell me I am hungry when I don't eat breakfast?
Hypothesis: I think that my stomach will growl if I don't eat breakfast because it is telling my brain I need food.
Prediction: If I don't eat breakfast, my stomach will start growling by lunch time to tell my brain I need food.
Experiment: I won't eat breakfast and will see if at lunch time it starts growling, and after I eat food if it will stop growling.
Conclusion: I conducted my experiment and found that my stomach does growl if I don't eat breakfast, and after I ate lunch the
growling went away.
